How not to apply for a Ph.D. stipend

I have been busy these days reading applications for open Ph.D. student positions. I like to share some sentences from two candidates who will not make it to the next round.

One candidate did not exactly leave the impression he was willing to finish within time and budget constraints:

„It is good to have an end to a journey; but it is the journey that matters, in the end“. For me, the journey has always been more fascinating than reaching the destination.

Another candidate missed the subtle differences between a college and a travel agency:

The other passion that I have is travelling. I love to see new places, attracted by both wonderful natural spots and big metropolis or artistic cities, visiting them alone or with my indefatigable girlfriend. I spent my holidays in Norway last year and it has been a wonderful experience. A Ph. D. position that gives me the opportunity to travel, will be really appreciated.
